Your recycled goods department store.

The Bargain Barn is a second-hand department store.  They sell everything from furniture and appliances to clothes and any salable goods. The Bargain Barn is not for profit and all proceeds go to the Malcam Charitable Trust and Habitat for Humanity.

I have been Store Manager of the Bargain Barn since April this year and it’s been an exciting, challenging and rewarding six months.  When I started the job I didn’t really know a great deal about the store or the two charitable organisations the store raises funds for.  I couldn’t believe I had managed to completely miss seeing this huge secondhand store right here in the city I live in.  Now I feel very much a part of the wonderful and unique culture that is the Bargain Barn. 

Essentially I see the store as recycled goods department store with a vast assortment of furniture, china, clothes, electrical goods and books.  But really our customers can potentially find almost anything, if it’s in salable order we endeavour to sell it.

We go out in our van six days a week, collecting donated items from the good people of our fair city, deliver items purchased, and throughout the day folk bring stuff to the store to be donated.  It’s amazing how generous people are out there. Our profile is being raised all the time.  A lot of that is word of mouth throughout the community plus flyer drops in letterboxes all over the city.  I’ve very much enjoyed being part of the team here at the Bargain Barn.  I have great staff;  Kate, Nga, Karen and Wendy who have been so welcoming and supportive to me, and all the other glorious volunteer staff that give their time and energy to help run the Barn with us.  I truly appreciate all their hard work.  So onward and upward we go.   I feel very positive about the continued success of the store
